Pendants - It’s All About You !

One of the highly preferred, sold and bought among all jewellery are pendants. Pendants enjoy both popularity as well as their central and most visible positioning on the human body. They are universal jewellery i.e. both men and women prefer wearing them alike. And they are, probably the most worn unisex jewellery of all. Here are some of the pendants that have highest popularity.

Diamond Pendants

Diamonds and platinum pendants are probably the most sought after today. Though people, especially women also like wearing other material as pendant, however, the most popular ones are diamond pendants. Gift a diamond pendant to a woman, be it your friend, girlfriend, wife, mother or any one, and you can see a similar shine in the eyes of the person.

Gold and Silver Pendants

Gold and Silver pendants come second in the popularity charts of pendants. People prefer gold and silver necklaces and neck chains but when it comes to pendants, they usually prefer diamonds more than gold ones. However, gold and silver pendants are still a mass favourite and they are more unisex in nature than diamonds or platinum.

Pearls and Crystals and other things

Pendants made of pearls, crystals, gems and gemstones are more preferred by women, however they too have universal utility. Women love wearing pearl, crystal and gem pendants in choker style and also in other styles. It all depends from individual to individual, from outfit to outfit and also at times from occasion to occasion.

Pendants express a person’s mood or personality quite well. In fact nothing else expresses a personality so well as do the pendants. They are sometimes worn to let the others know what you are and what are your beliefs, what is his likes and dislikes. Sometimes pendants are the best way to express the kind of occasion and shines and shimmers to make the celebrations more interesting.

Antique Diamond !

Offering an engagement ring to the one you love as a formal agreement to marriage has been around for a long time. In the Western culture, antique diamond engagement rings are the most common engagement rings that are used to impress the one they want to marry. Diamond rings are very popular among engaged couples.

Presenting this gift to your partner is one of the greatest ways to commemorate your love for each other. Despite the fact that there are lots and lots of selection of modern engagement rings available on the market these days, many people choose it as a way to mark their upcoming marriage. In contrast to the modern diamond engagement rings that are custom built, the designs of authentic antique diamond engagement rings can not be fine tuned or acquired on a different shade. On the other hand, there are lots jewelers that are capable of producing a replica of the antique diamond engagement ring that you want, that can be adjusted the way you want it to be. It is like having a traditional appearance on a new ring.

Most of the rings available on the market these days have an immense sentimental significance. Many of these originated from the 18th or 9th century to the late fifties. Antique diamond engagement rings are mostly obtained or purchased on antique shops and estates. There are also lots of jewelers the focus on the sale of high quality antique jewelries. You can even find some antique diamond engagement rings on the internet. Most of these online antique diamond engagement ring retailer offer deals and bargains. All it takes is perseverance in browsing through the internet for the perfect gift that suits you best.

However, before you purchase one, be sure to examine it closely; do not hesitate to ask the jewelry retailer questions regarding the condition of the antique ring. The metal prongs that hold the stone must be tight and secure and make sure that the metal that lengthens around the back of the finger must have sufficient thickness.

And also, know all the information regarding the return policy and the money back guarantee. Make sure that you understand and agree to all the terms and conditions of the deal. It is best, that you utilize all the services that the jewelry retailer offers (like repairs and cleanings). The more services the jeweler retailer provides the better and more reliable they are.

Giving a ring symbolizes a sense of sentiment that the romance of present was offered by the symbol of love of the past.

Beaded jewelry

A bead is a small, decorative object that is pierced for threading or stringing. Alternatively plastic beads may be molded onto a Thread during manufacturing. Beads range in size from under a millimeter to over a centimeter in diameter. Glass, plastic, and stone are probably the most common materials, but beads are also made from bone, horn, ivory, metal, shell, pearl, coral, gemstones, polymer clay, metal clay, resin, synthetic minerals, wood, ceramic, fiber, paper, and the seeds of the Bead tree. A pair of beads made from Nassarius shells that are approximately 100,000 years old are thought to be the first known examples of jewellery.
Beaded jewelry refers to the jewelry made by using one or more of the different types of beads. They may woven together by a string or adhered to surfaces depending on the designed that one wishes to create. Exquisite beaded jewelry is to be found on the market.
Treasures of handmade Beaded Jewelry culled from different corners of the world abound. We find different regions; cultures and ages have had their own distinctive style of making beaded jewelry. From simple grace to ornate brilliance – the diversity of beaded jewelry is endless. An array of elegant beaded jewelry, handcrafted from glass, shells, plastic, metal, in fascinating colors, are available allover the world.

Beads can be strung together in any number of combinations to create different objects. Most of the times we create ornamental items like bracelets, earrings, and so on. Accomplished beaders are known to create highly complex bead items like multi-strand necklaces and complete ornament sets.
Beads come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes and styles. Some well known types include: Delica beads (cylindrical and very symmetric), opaque beads (non-transparent, single color), donut beads (donut-shaped beads in various colors), Aurora Borealis beads (multicolored, also clear or opaque), galvanized beads (with a metal coating), seed beads (small beads that make the body of the ornament or that fill the spaces between the bigger beads), transparent beads, silver lined or gold lined beads, matte finish (dull coating) beads and more.
Beads are made from almost any possible material including stone, glass, metal, wood, semi-precious and precious stones. Select the materials based upon the design and the item that you are planning to make. When selecting beads, look for uniformity in the finishing and the ease of stringing them together as the main factors in your purchase.

Beads : A Brief History

What do you think the earliest recorded use of beads is ‚ is your first thought perhaps beadwork created by the Egyptians? Yes, there certainly were a lot of beaded items in Egyptian times, but beadwork has been found dating back to the Stone Age (the Upper Paleolithic period). Beads were added to rudimentary clothing; these beads were made of shells and ivory. Of course, the beads weren’t as finely crafted as later beads, but still, they were beads. So even in caveman times, men and women were interested in improving their clothing and appearance with the use of beads.

Beads

The beads that we tend to think of as traditional beadwork are called seed beads ‚ because of their small size they resemble seeds. These beads were used in early beadwork ‚ the work of the Egyptians.

The Egyptians used a type of bead called faience beads. Our seed beads today are made of glass, but Egyptians were using beads long before the invention of glass. Their faience beads were made from quartz particles fused together. A glaze was applied over the quartz. The beads were then woven or strung into a variety of jewelry and clothing.

beads2

Beaded necklaces were found in the tomb of King Tut. Other beaded items in his tomb were a pair of slippers he perhaps wore as a child and a hassock. It’s unusual for ancient beadwork to survive since it was strung on cords made from leather and cloth, which tend to disintegrate with age. We are fortunate to have these few examples to give us a perspective on the history of Egyptian beading.

Some religious texts from India refer to beads being woven into hair and into horse’s tails. These references were recorded around the 9th century BC. And beads were also widely used throughout Asia in ancient times. There were beaded items found in temples in Japan that date back to 800 A.D.
Early beads were fashioned from shells, ivory and stone. Early Egyptians valued the beads according to the stone that was used to create the beads. Different stones were thought to have different properties.

Lapis Lazuli, a beautiful blue stone, was believed to protect the wearer’s health. This stone was often fashioned into beads, as were carnelian, feldspar, amethyst, turquoise and jasper ‚ many of the same stones we use today.

Glass was introduced as a component of beads around 1480, when Venice began drawing glass tubes and turning them into beads. Once the technology for pulling glass tubes was invented, it was easy to suddenly produce thousands of beads, all uniform in size, color and shape.

Modern jewelry and beading certainly benefits from the advances made in the production of beads, but there’s no doubt that even today, an individually handcrafted bead can be the star attraction of any beading piece.

Diamond Cuts

It is said that the true worth of a diamond is determined by its clarity, cut, carat and color. Generally, people evaluate the worth of their money by diamond’s color and size but they are really naive about its cut. In fact, the cut of a diamond is a major factor in establishing its price.

cut_diamond

The cut in a diamond is really important as a small mistake in cut can ruin the whole piece so, it should be done intelligently and carefully that enhances the look and beauty of the piece. Therefore, it totally depends upon the expertise and magic of cutter’s hand in shaping up the raw stone into the refined glittering gem that lays its impact on its wearer for forever.

diamond_cut

Diamonds are available in different shapes such as round, oval, marquise, pear, heart, emerald pieces and radiant that distinguishes diamonds according to its varieties. So, it’s really tough for a cutter to bring a life in diamond from a dull stone to a dazzling sparkling gem that is cherished by its wearers. For making a diamond alive certain principles have to be keeping in mind, let’s know them in brief:

Depth:
Depth of a diamond is important in giving an accurate angle to the raw piece that further divert the internal lights of the stone from upside, bottom, sides and corners. If it is done poorly, the radiance of the diamond gets lost and restricts its real glow and charm so, the depth is always considered sharply.

Symmetry:
Symmetry refers to perfect alignment of diamond’s facets; it satisfies the eye and enhances the brilliance and glow of the diamond. A diamond will look dull and when done improperly and misaligned.

diamond3

Polish:
Polish means smoothness of the surface of the diamond that brings real glow in the diamond. With the invention of new techniques of polish, it has become very easy to bring out the glitter of the piece and refinement as lights easily enters into it and passes easily and effortlessly.

So, a true diamond is not only based on its clarity, weight and color but its cut is also a major factor in deciding its brilliance and shine that people just ignore while buying. For us, its brilliance and glow is the reasons for its high cost that takes our heart easily. But, it’s the fact that the radiance of the diamond depends highly on its cut.

Celtic jewellery

Celtic jewelry is rich in history . the art of Celtic jewellery making is at its core an enchanting and magical one because of the mystery and meanings surrounding its designs. many people are unaware that Celtic jewelry is based upon a culture that existed many centuries ago. The Celts dominated Central and Western Europe for about 1000 years. Celtic designs are appreciated for their intricacy and beauty.

numerous patterns of Celtic origin, such as the spiral and the cross, are used by jewelers in their creations. there was a time i used to buy them that I found at accessory stores at the mall , but ! since the internet changes every aspect of our lives i am sitting next to my computer now , searching for beautiful pieces to purchase and adding them to my collection where there are many Celtic Jewelry or Silver jewellery designs available to choose from, so you can be sure to find a design that matches the taste and preferences you have ! Also, you will know that your Celtic will be both unique and sentimental.

it is certainly an excellent reason for anyone looking for jewelry to choose it over traditional jewelry pieces for their loved one.

Sterling Silver Jewelry

Nothing can quite beat the sheer elegance of sterling silver. The brilliance of silver jewelry appeals to almost every person of any age, even regardless of gender. However, it also possesses that sublime sophistication that gold jewelry always seems to overdo. Sterling silver jewelry is affordable, and that makes it possible for anyone to develop a nice collection of jewelry without blowing your budget. Take a look at some of my favorite sterling silver heart pendants and necklaces. You’ll find a wide variety of styles.

Sterling Silver Jewelry

Everywhere around the world, sterling silver jewelry is recognized to be a symbol of class and elegance. The fashion industry regards silver ornaments as indispensable in any woman’s personal collection.
Silver is a soft metal and its usage has been favored for centuries. It is used to make charms often related to religious worship. Silver has been a symbol of comfortable living. Sterling silver is much stronger than pure silver which is harder to work with when making pendants or charms. Sterling silver is approximately ninety percent silver. The last ten percent or so can be any one of the following: copper, zinc, or nickel and is more durable than pure silver but it still retains its inherent beauty.

More About Sterling Silver Jewelry !

Sterling silver jewelry continues to gain popularity as today’s fashion conscious public finds it a great alternative to gold jewelry. Sterling silver is composed of 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent copper, making it a better option to use for silver jewelry compared to fine silver. Fine silver is pure silver, which is rarely used for silver jewelry because it is too soft.

sterling-silver3

Sterling silver can be used to make all kinds of jewelry, including bracelets, rings, necklaces, or pendants. But one of the most popular uses of sterling silver is in the silver chain. Silver chains can be made in different styles such as the figaro, rope, box, snake, herringbone, curb, and cable. This can also be custom-designed and made in shapes like the diamond cut, double rope, figure eight, rolled anchor, and alternating short- and long-link. This silver chain makes a perfect backdrop for lockets and charm accessories .
How to clean your Sterling silver jewelry

Sterling silver jewelry may be fashionable, but it can turn gold or even black when it comes in contact with the chemicals present in hot tubs or pools. Products like nail polish remover and bleach can also cause a displeasing effect on sterling silver jewelry. Luckily, this piece of jewelry can be cleaned easily by following simple steps.

First is to decide on the proper cleaning product to use. Products such as ammonia, alcohol, bleach, and acetone can damage sterling silver beyond repair so the cleanser should be free from these chemicals. A mild cleanser should be used and this should still be diluted in water.

sterling-silver2

After deciding on the cleanser, the next step is to choose a cleaning brush. Hard bristle brushes made of horsehair and abrasive-bristled brushes are not advisable. The best brush to use is a baby toothbrush, a soft-bristle brush, or a mushroom brush.

Once the jewelry is brushed with the cleanser, this should be dried afterwards using the proper cloth. The cloth should be 100 percent cotton in order to protect the sterling silver jewelry from scratches and other damages.

These are some of the steps in the proper cleaning of sterling silver jewelry. By following these simple steps, you can be assured that your jewelry will last for a long time.

The Rise of Silver

The value of sterling silver is rising. Although it is currently hovering around $8-$9 per ounce and once was as low as $4 per ounce in 2001, silver has shown the ability to earn as it once topped $49 per ounce back in 1980. There is a resurgence in the interest in silver jewelry especially as more manufacturer’s such as Tiffany $ Co. focus more attention on their silver product lines. The quality of silver when coated with rhodium, a precious metal, can rival white gold in shine and sharpness.

Sterling Silver

Silver has been used for thousands of years in dining utensils, ornaments and as coinage in numerous monetary systems. In fact, the word “silver” can be translated in 14 different languages as “money”. Silver has the highest electrical conductivity of all metals including copper. Its use is not widespread in all things electrical, however, due to its costliness and tendency to tarnish, although because of its high conductivity it is commonly found in computer parts. Silver has always played second fiddle to gold generally but there are a few societies in history such as ancient Egypt and the middle ages in Europe, where silver was considered more valuable than gold. Today’s state of silver is, however, a matter of popularity and not necessarily value.

In modern times silver is used most in the area of photography in the form of silver nitrate which is a corrosive light sensitive ingredient used in film. Silver is also used to produce the highly reflective surfaces of mirrors through a process called silvering. The practical nature and application of silver is apparent not only to industrial types but to the average consumer. Silver jewelry, given its beauty, quality and inexpensiveness has become a highly sought after commodity. Silver jewelry is usually produced with 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper as 100% silver would simply be too soft to use in usable jewelry.

The only drawback to silver is its tendency to tarnish. Tarnish is basically a layer of corrosion that naturally develops over silver as it is exposed to oxygen. Scientists have tried to prevent tarnish by adding different alloys which have helped decrease tarnishability. There are some new developments in this regard as scientists at Sheffield Hallam University have been attempting to produce a new type of silver alloy which will be more resistant to tarnish, called Carrs Lustre Silver. There are ways to prevent tarnish from occurring in caring for silver jewelry, including the use of low abrasive phosphate free detergent cleaner or chemically treated jewelry cleaning cloths. Some even use toothpaste although they may be left with perceivably dull scratches. Silver jewelry is gaining popularity with a consumer public which is interested in affordability, style and quality. When polished, silver shines as gloriously as white gold. Retailers find that consumers are buying silver engagement rings for daily use as they store their diamond and gold rings for special occasions. Young people who want to express themselves with jewelry are turning to silver as a suitable alternative to expensive gold jewelry. Online retailers like jewelrypayless.com, bluenile.com and tiffany.com are expanding their silver product lines in anticipation of more demand as the rise of the silver jewelry industry continues.

Jewelry of Semi-Precious Stones

Want to make or wear impressive costume jewelry, but running on a tight budget? Using semi-precious stones is one good way to achieve this. These stones come in a wide variety and are highly accessible to almost everyone. Semi-precious stones preserve the effect of sophistication. Many pieces of jewelry made of these stones are pleasant to look at without seeming opulent. Depending on one’s own taste and fashion sense, these gemstones have the greatest potential to enhance one’s personal sense of style.

nice_stones

Some semi-precious stones are also birthstones, which correspond to people’s birth months. Some people believe that wearing stones that correspond with one’s birth month increases one’s inner strength. This special trait makes jewelry made of certain semi-precious birthstones especially useful as gifts. Examples of such birthstones are garnet (January) and aquamarine (March).
Another popular belief is that certain stones have their own unique “powers.” For example, wearing garnet is said to help ease the pain of a bad breakup, or cause jealousy between lovers. Amethyst is said to protect its wearer against the ill effects of alcohol, slow down intoxication and prevent hangovers. Turquoise is said to give emotional strength. Jade has always had enormous importance in Asian civilization; it is said to have the mystical power to protect its wearer against nightmares and other psychic attacks.

Precious-Stones

Quartz is said to be among the most important of the semi-precious stones, because it calls upon the power of love — especially the rare rose quartz. Wearing rose quartz is said to increase one’s chances of finding or maintaining a good romantic relationship.
Some pieces of bead jewelry are also made of semi-precious stones. The stones are threaded together with cords, making fine webs and accentuating intricate designs. Jewelry made of semi-precious stones is always popular, partly because of the beliefs associated with the stones — but mostly because they’re so pretty and can go well with anything one wears.

Designer Jewelry !

Creating masterpieces on jewelry is child’s play for the Italian designers who spend their valuable time in sketching the designs and then applying them on the metals. Gold is said to be the frequently used metal on which their creativity speaks the language of royalty. Right from the trendy jewelries to the traditional ones, it is an Italian designer who can best mold the metals. For the women of today jewelry indeed is a concept of something funky and fashionable with the least intrusion of the bells and charms that were used as the decorative. Gold, which was once regarded as the jewelry for the D-day occasions has now turned to be a regular wear. Fashion changes color with time and the tastes of women also roll along with it. With the attempt to feed the needs of this change in fashion, designers are also storming their brains. Fashion jewelry for this matter always has an edge over the traditional and the so-called outdated ones. Italian designers have already earned the praise for their creativity right from the beginning of history and now they are just trying to modify it by producing something unique for the multi-tasking women of today.

Designer_Jewelry

The height of experimentation with the metals and the jewelries is carrying the designers to such an extent that they are trying to produce something exquisite by molding steel and ceramic also. They have delivered almost a mentionable change in the function and usages of the unique material that hardly had any implication in jewelry making. Coral is also often used in making designer jewelry. In fact the marriages between the coral and ceramic jewelry created by the Italian designers can look awesome and trendy on any woman irrespective of her skin color. You can get to see the sample of such an interesting piece of work with Vivace jewelry which on purchase can be shipped to the address given free of cost. These modern designers can custom make the jewelry for your make over.

Designer_Jewelry

They also present some of the excellent collection on the rings and bracelets that can even look attractive on the men. Fashionable jewelry that the teenagers and the office goers love to put on is mostly light and cheaper. The risk that they try to avoid while in precious jewelry items can easily be avoided when they are wearing cheap fashionable jewelry designed by the Italian designers. These designers are trying their best to show their craftsmanship through the magic effects that they can produce with the help of ceramic, coral along with other imitation metals. Color is a primary factor when ceramic jewelry is concerned. These jewelries have to be painted according to the need of the stylish women of today. Pearl can also be an excellent element to be used up as pendant. The creative brain of the designer decides the style in which it has to be inserted. The designers can use ceramic to create excellent pieces of necklace, bracelets and earrings. There is a lot of scope to experiment with the earrings as they are small and can be shaped in any way you feel like.

The best part of the Italian jewelry is that the designers posses the capacity to make any dull metal graceful, with their touch. This group of Midas is innovative in whatever metal or material they work on. Sterling silver can add a new meaning so that it can tell the untold story. Silver existed long back but moving with time is a wise decision and jewelry is just a part of such movement. Colored ornamental earrings are effective when they are hand glazed. The working women of today love to put on only that particular type of jewelry that can glorify them and make them look awesome. The Italian jewelries are also unparallel when it comes to designing of costume jewelry and vintage jewelry. It is only a sketch that produces the ultimate magic shining on the curves of women’s body. Wedding ceremonies are absolutely incomplete without the junk fusion collections with the glittering stones of increasing denominations studded on them in ascending order. Amethyst glass crystal beads are heavy and produce an elegant look when they are put on with orange or saffron apparels. They present a sense of holiness, which gets reflected on the face of the woman wearing it. The Italian Designers are also expert in creating designs on brooches.

Designer_Jewelry2

These were used long before but with the change in style their uses have diminished and hence, the designers are trying to recreate them by giving some different forms, shapes and sizes to them. Gold items in 14 to 22 carats are light. They are simply just capable of attracting any women. They look ethnic and have the fragrance of elegance. The Italian designers have also experienced art while playing with the white gold, which is precious and unique in itself with the touch of elegance. Crystals are auspicious for they reflect the light that falls on them and also makes you glow. It is the Italian jewelry designers who can make fruitful use of the crystals.

They can use it simply by hanging beautiful crystals with the prominent edges from a chocker or can gather various colors of it to create a multi-colored crystal necklace. Leather is modified with cutter convenience to make the bracelets for the teenage boys and girls. In fact, bracelets more like the bangles can produce an exclusiveness that is desired by everyone. Body piercing jewelry can also have a major outlet in the form of the nose rings, naval rings and eyebrow rings. Though they are not of much artistic value yet to make them unique some amount of design definitely has to be inserted. Fashionable jewelries that are used in matching with the apparels are mostly made up of cheap metals, which the working women prefer the most. So, most of the Italian designer jewelries for regular use are being created on these types of imitation or easily available materials.

A Charmed History !

As far back as the Neolithic era, humankind chose to carry unusual stones or a piece of wood as protection from enemies or evil spirits. During the time of the Egyptian pharaohs, the first recognizable charm bracelets and necklaces appeared. These were elaborate pieces of jewelry made of precious stones and metals. Charms were also used to identify an individual to the gods in the afterlife.

Much later during the Roman Empire, Christians identified one another with the “ichthys,” or fish charm, they carried beneath their garments to gain entry into secret worship meetings, held sometimes in the catacombs. Medieval kings and knights used charms with incantations for protection. Charms could also represent family origin, political standing and profession. During the Renaissance as superstitions faded, charms began to lose favor with the more wealthy and educated. However, in the early 20th century, it was Queen Victoria who began a charm bracelet trend among the European noble class during her reign. The Queen took to wearing a bracelet with tiny charm pictures of her children.

Charm bracelets again found an audience at the end of World War II. Soldiers returning home from overseas brought along trinkets made by local craftsmen to give their sweethearts. The charms represented miniature replicas of notable locations, such as the Eiffel Tower or Big Ben. Stateside jewelers quickly caught on to the trend and began fashioning charms for all occasions.

Within a decade, the charm bracelet was the must-have accessory for girls and women. Charm bracelets became popular gifts for 16th birthdays, graduations, weddings, and births of children. These tiny links to one’s personal history became deeply valued for their sentimental and material worth.

More recently, Italian charms became the rage at the turn of the Millennium. A departure from the traditional hanging trinkets, these bracelets snap into the bracelet rather than dangle from it. The flat, modular charms link together to form a bracelet, keychain or other accessory. Zoppini and Nomination are two popular makers of Italian charm bracelets. Fashion gurus like Louis Vuitton and Juicy Couture have also launched their own Italian charms.

Meanwhile, in both Europe and North America, a new modular charm bracelet trend has emerged. These modular bracelets consist of a chain onto which various beads or charms can be placed. Charms are made from gold, silver or Murano glass. The bracelet’s design allows the wearer to interchange the charms and create a totally unique look. Beads can also be worn on necklaces, rings and earrings to make a complete set.

The modular jewelry concept enjoyed acclaim in Europe before coming to the States. Inspired by Greek mythology, it combines versatility with fashion to establish beloved charm and bead bracelets. This jewelry concept also encourages creativity and individuality through its beautiful designs.

Women can create their own look and style for every whim or special moment. For example, you can design the Bohemian romantic, the elegant chic, the raw grace, the 60’s flower power, the charmed sophisticate, the billionaire, the simplistic minimalist, or the pure feminine. Modular jewelry can be used to reflect a change in mood or to express personality.

Diamond or Cubic Zirconia ?

So what is the difference between diamond and cubic zirconia? Why is cubic zirconia (CZ) quickly becoming more popular as a desirable substitute for diamond? Gemologists can agree that CZ comes closer than any other gem material to matching the characteristics of a diamond.

cubic-zirconia

Most people, even trained gemologists, cannot tell the difference between diamond and CZ, with the naked eye. Moreover, to the untrained eye, CZ looks identical to a good quality diamond. However, under closer inspection, CZ appears to have slightly less brilliance (or sparkle) than a diamond, and more fire, or flashes of color. CZs were originally developed by the Russians, for their space program. They were developed as an alternative to diamonds that were used in the optics of their lasers. CZs have a refractive index, dispersion and hardness so close to a diamond it’s uncanny.
So what are some key features that can guide you in telling the difference between diamond and CZ? Do keep in mind, though, in order to accurately distinguish the two gems, gemological equipment such as microscope, or loupe, must be used for testing and verification. to start, let’s take a look at the hardness factor: Did you know CZ ranges between 8.5 to 9.0 on the Mohs’ hardness scale whereas diamond, one of the hardest materials known to man, is rated 10, lying at the top of the hardness scale?
Furthermore, glass (or sand) is rated approximately 5 to 6 on the hardness scale, therefore, dust and dirt will not scratch CZ. Indeed, CZ can scratch glass just like regular diamonds, making it more resistant to chipping.

cubic-zirconia
One great difference between diamond and CZ is weight. CZs are heavyweights in comparison to diamonds; a CZ will weigh approximately 1.75 times more than a diamond of equivalent size. So basically, a piece of CZ the same size as a one-carat diamond weighs about 1.75 carats. Well…isn’t that interesting?
Contemporary production of CZ is virtually flawless, whereas diamond usually contains impurities and inclusions, or have some sort of defect, be it a feather, included crystal, or perhaps a remnant of an original crystal face (e.g. trigons). In regards to color—more precisely, the lack of color—only the rarest of diamonds are truly colorless, as most have a tinge of yellow or brown to some extent. By comparison, CZ in most cases can be made entirely colorless, equivalent to a perfect “D” on diamond’s color grading scale.
Also, under close inspection with a loupe, the facet shapes of some CZs appear different from diamonds. Both gems disperse light a little differently. Dispersion is just a scientific term for the breaking up of light into its spectral colors. With a dispersive power greater than diamond (0.060 vs. 0.044), the more prismatic fire of CZ can be seen by even an untrained eye.
Dispersion occurs based on the gem’s refractive index. In this case, refractive index simply indicates how much a beam of light will bend, based on the direction in which it is traveling when it passes between two materials of different optical densities (such as between diamond and air; or between CZ and air). Being that CZ has a refractive index of 2.176, compared to a diamond’s 2.417, diamonds are therefore said to be brighter than CZ. Another difference between the two gems is that CZs are thermal insulators—meaning, they reduce the rate of heat transfer—whilst diamonds are among the most efficient thermal conductors—meaning, they allow heat to easily pass through them. Without testing the gems’ heat conductivity, it can be difficult to tell them apart.
Remember, it is a 50/50 guess to identify a gem by visual inspection; it is not a scientific method of authentication. That is why even certified and degreed gemologists use gemological equipment for testing and verification. You will also be glad to know that CZs are not only durable and inexpensive, but just like diamonds, they come in any color of the rainbow, making them even more desirable.
There have been many instances to see if jewelers can tell the difference between diamond and cubic zirconia, just by examining the gems with the naked eye. Over and over again, it was inconclusive; jewelers could not tell the difference just by looking at the gems. Bracelets

Bracelets are among the earliest adornments. In ancient Egypt, men and women frequently wore gold bands or twisted gold wire on each wrist and upper arm.

Often decorated with figures of snakes or sphinxes, bracelets remained popular until the fall of the Roman Empire, when the long sleeves worn in the middle ages sent them into obscurity. Bracelets didn’t become fashionable again until the 1800s.

Popular Bracelets Styles

As you learned in the section on chains, a length of chain in any number of attractive styles can be worn around the wrist as a bracelet. But there is a wealth of other bracelets styles to choose from - some set with gems, some showing off the beauty of precious metal. Some bracelets, like the chain bracelet, are flexible. Some are rigid.

Today, most people wear bracelets on their wrists, although arm bracelets and ankle bracelets are available. Both men and women wear chain bracelets, though many bracelets styles are for women only. Now titanium bracelets are becoming extremely popular for men to wear because of their masculine look and appeal. Stainless steel bracelets are now in fashion as well.

The diamond tennis bracelets are one of today’s most popular bracelet styles. It’s a variation on a classic bracelet style, the straight-line bracelet. Simply described, it’s a flexible band of faceted, usually round diamonds of matching size set in a line that encircles the wrist. The diamonds can be set in gold or platinum.

It got its new name after a famous tennis player, Chris Evert, attracted public attention to it. Evert’s diamond straight-line bracelet slipped off during a televised tennis match. She stopped the match to retrieve it, calling it her “tennis bracelet” and the new became part of jewel history.

Cuffs and bangle bracelets are examples of rigid bracelets. Cuffs are wide or narrow C-shaped bands that fit over the wrist or arm. Popular with the ancients, today they are often brightly polished, plain metal bands. But cuffs can also be of openwork of filigree. They can also be gem-set or otherwise decorated. Designer Elsa Peretti is known for her “bone cuff” design - a fluidly shaped cuff bracelet of precious metal shaped to fit the contours of the wrists.

A bangle bracelet can be circular or oval. Sometimes, however, the outside of the bangle is an angular shape like a square. Most bangles are made of precious metal, but can be fashioned from jadeite, nephrite, or a combination of materials. Bangles either slip on over the hand or open and close by means of hinge and clasp mechanisms. Hinged bangles usually feature short safety chains, in case their clasps open accidently. Bangles, Like cuffs, can be ornate or plain, gem-set or without gems. Sometimes women wear several bangles “stacked” together.

Making Custom Jewelry Wholesale

If you have a great sense of style and creativity, you should consider constructing quality custom jewelry wholesale for individual clients. If you are good at it, you will find that you have customers calling you over and over again to construct special pieces for them, or as gifts for others.
Making custom jewelry wholesale isn’t hard. Again, you need a sense of style and creativity – but the skills needed to make jewelry are very easy to learn. The object is to make your pieces unique – exclusive. When a client wears custom jewelry that you designed and constructed, they should wear it knowing that there is none other like it in the whole world !

RubyDiamond_Bracelet

Working with clients is actually the hardest part. You need to get a picture in your mind that matches the picture that is in their minds. Never construct the piece while they are watching – this is in effect teaching them how to do it themselves, and you will probably lose a customer. Never let them know just how easy it is! Talk at length with the client. This is the only way that you can design custom jewelry that matches
their likes, dislikes, and personality. If the piece is to be a gift for someone else, ask lots of questions about that person, and if possible, meet them in person yourself. Remember that uniqueness and exclusivity are the key to making this type of business successful – but great communication with the clients is vitally important as well.

Many clients will want you to make custom jewelry wholesale using stones or gems that they already have. They may even want you to just enhance a piece that they already have. Before you start doing this, make sure that you have the skill and qualifications necessary to do this work. You do not want to destroy a client’s beloved jewelry! Make sure that you ask about the history of the piece, and find out what special meaning that piece holds for your client as well. Of course, you will purchase the pieces that you need to make the custom jewelry from wholesale resources. Just make sure that you are buying quality parts – and look for sources for unique jewelry making supplies as well – imported pieces are great sources for uniqueness. You will have to quote your client a price before you start, so be careful here. You don’t want to lose money. Once you’ve quoted a price, deduct 15% to 30% from it. Think of the remainder as your ‘budget’ when buying supplies to make the custom jewelry .

Beaded jewelry

A bead is a small, decorative object that is pierced for threading or stringing. Alternatively plastic beads may be molded onto a Thread during manufacturing.

Lab-Created Diamonds

There has been a great deal discussion about lab-created diamonds. Along with that talk, there is much misinformation and perplexity. The jewelry lover, who is interested in realizing the huge savings and aesthetic beauty that simulated diamonds offer, is often bewildered by the manufactured diamond industry jargon and available options. This article will categorically break it down in easy-to-understand terms so that anyone can make an intelligent decision when choosing a simulated diamond.
GEM MATERIALS: 99% of all lab-created diamonds sold worldwide are polycrystalline on a molecular level. The differences are fundamentally in the technical aspects of manufacturing, cutting, and polishing.

null

Think of it this way—all coffeemakers are made of plastic, steel, and glass, the differences are how these materials are designed and implemented. Higher quality coffeemakers make a better tasting cup of coffee. Higher quality manufactured diamonds are in line with mined diamonds.
QUALITY VARIANCES: It seems like grade variations are made out to be a more complex lab-created diamond issue then it really is. Once boiled down, there are three primary grades of simulated diamonds—high, medium, and low. For the jewelry shopper it should be noted that the quality of setting goes hand-in-hand with the quality of the gemstone. Those that sell manufactured diamond jewelry off point-of-purchase displays in the costume jewelry sections of discount stores use low quality or scrap stones that are not gem quality, and have disco ball or murky look.

lab2

Those that sell manufactured diamond jewelry on the TV shopping channels—which is generally with a sterling silver or a micro-thin layer of gold plated over silver (Vermeil [pronounced ver-may]) settings—use medium quality stones not of gem quality. Those that sell solid 14K gold or solid platinum settings, as a rule, use the highest gem-quality man made gemstones that replicate mined diamonds.
PRICING: Low grade stones are sold in bulk to costume jewelry makers and are often glued on electroplated settings. This jewelry is fine for children, where loss risk is high, and usually retails for less than $15 per item. You will find medium grade stones primarily in sterling silver jewelry that sells for under $100 per item, settings and stones. Medium grade simulated diamonds can be distinguished by the naked eye as not being mined diamonds. High grade gemstone quality lab-created diamonds, undistinguishable by the naked eye from mined diamonds, are found mounted on settings of solid 14K gold and platinum. This is considered to be fine jewelry, with the best quality gemstones selling for under $100 per carat for the gemstones alone. Manufactured diamonds that sell for over $100 a carat are not higher quality than those that sell for between $80 and $100 per carat.

lab3

RECOMMENDATIONS: If you are buying for someone that is likely to lose the jewelry, there is no reason to spend any more than you have to, and Wal-Mart will do just fine. On the clearance rack you can even pick up some jewelry for less than $5 per item. If you buy simulated diamonds set in sterling silver, expect decent stones, but they will fool few into thinking they are mined diamonds. Also, your fingers are likely to turn green or black in response to a chemical reaction, not with the silver per se, but with the nickel/copper alloys in sterling silver. With any plated settings, gemstones are low to medium grade, and the plating will eventually chip off, particularly around the edges. When that happens, the nickel/copper alloys will be exposed, the setting will look like it came out of a gum ball machine, and your finger will generally turn green or black. It is just a matter of common sense, if you want simulated diamonds with mined-diamond qualities, they must be set in 14K solid gold. Jewelers who offer lab-created diamonds are not going spend on money on gold and not mount the highest quality stones, which would defeat the purpose of creating fine diamond-like jewelry and alienate customers.
